Jhonen Vasquez

A homage to the master mind behind hit comic book series Johnny The Homicidal Maniac, Squee and I feel Sick.

Jhonen was raised in East San Jose, where, he attended Mount Pleasant High School. He spent a lot of his class time doodling characters. He put his art skills to test by taking part in a contest to design a new look for his School's New mascot, the Cardinal. His entry was however rejected and the same character became a preliminary sketch of what later became Johnny C.

Johnny appeared in his school's newspaper and was very well received. He later went about creating a full length comic book series titled  Johnny The Homicidal Maniac, Squee and I feel Sick. while the first was based on Johnny, the other two comics were individual titles given to recurring characters that appeared in the former comic.

Many of Jhonen's characters are thin and the protagonists (except for Devi) are insane who live in an even crazier society. The appearance of Happy faces in his artwork evoke an ironical sense of happiness in a world of chaos and darkness. His scratchy panels and the use of Black and White colour schemes were what inspired me to develop a style similar to his but in noways close to it.
